Getting started
Sign up on the dashboard to start chatting with Nia in the browser, or install the CLI to use it from your terminal. Both share the same account, and the browser extension can bridge context from an open tab straight into a CLI session — you don't have to pick just one.
Using the CLI
The terminal assistant reads and writes files with diff previews, runs shell commands, and can index a whole directory for semantic search (the “directory brain”). Slash commands like /trust, /index-status, and /reindexmanage that per-directory. A three-tier trust model (locked/default/full) decides which tool calls need your explicit yes before they run — nothing risky happens unattended unless you've set it to full trust.
Using the dashboard
The web app is one chat that remembers context across conversations, manages your calendar and to-dos, reads documents you attach, and can keep working on background tasks after you close the tab. Connect Gmail, Google Calendar, Google Drive, or GitHub from Settings to let Nia act on those directly.
The browser extension
A sidepanel companion that reads the active tab, syncs cookies, and bridges browser context into a CLI session. Install it from Chrome, then sign in with the same account you use on the dashboard.
Locking chats and folders
Any chat or folder can be locked behind a PIN — locked content is withheld by the server, not just hidden in the interface, and email addresses in conversations are masked automatically until you unlock them. Set your PIN in Settings > Security.
Troubleshooting
Nia is under active development, so rough edges show up. If a tool call fails, Nia reports the error back and asks for instructions or tries to self-correct — you don't need to start the conversation over. If something looks stuck or wrong, refreshing the page or restarting the CLI resolves most transient issues.
